From 1968 :: “2001: A Space Odyssey”
June 15, 2015 Gary played the part of Dr. Frank Poole in the classic science-fiction film 2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY directed by the late Stanley Kubrick. For almost a half century, Gary as well as his co-star Keir Dullea have traveled all over the world discussing this groundbreaking film to amazed audiences. Critics and other filmmakers alike have praised Kubrick for his artistic prowess as well as his vision in depicting space as it should have been seen. 2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY has influenced many filmmakers such as George Lucas, Ridley Scott, Darren Aronofksy, David Lynch, Danny Boyle, Christopher Nolan, and many others who have used Kubrick’s style to fill their own films with similar production values. Both Gary and Keir attend conventions, special screenings and question and answer sessions discussing the making of the film. The film came from a novella called The Sentinel written by novelist Arthur C. Clark, however, Clark expanded this story to accommodate Kubrick’s vision. Ridley Scott’s production company have purchased the rights to Clark’s final book in the quatrology and are making a mini series based on the events that happened in 3001: Odyssey Four when the body of Frank Poole is retrieved in the future.
